Our Genealogy Tree starts with Richard Waite
- but who was he - were there more than one
- or did he return to England from the US and marry
and then the children came to the US -
that is the question?
Now, we add Wethersfield Essex as a possible earlier Richard Waite 1600 family town.
Zane Waite donated his DNA years ago but I've never heard from he or his sister since. BUT...although we're still waiting for the second panel, your results are really cool!!! It looks like you're going to be a match to the Richard of Watertown line. Really cool! But...how did a descendant of Richard of Watertown immigrate from England in the early 19th century...hmmmm. Two explainations...your ancestor is a descendant of a Richard of Watertown man who returned to England...and had a family...who's "son" later returned to America...or...your line and that of Richard of Watertown descend from a common ancestor who would have to be at least Richard's father...and possibly even earlier. Richard is said to have come from Wethersfield, Essex, England. Does this make sense in relation to the location in England from which your Richard immigrated? Could your Richard have been born here and simply lived for a time in England? Where do you think we should start in our search for the connection? I'm really excited for you. This is the first time we've had an English line match an American line. Looking forward to hearing from you.

At least two of Richard and Charlotte Waite England born children emigrated to
the US. John and James.
The John Waite Obit indicated John lived with his Baptist preacher father (had
to be Richard but what of Charlotte) in Lorraine NY for a year before going to
Adams.
The question is was he married or not at that time - and then went back to
England to marry Sara and move to Adams.
No obits found yet for Richard or Chalotte.

TOWCESTER FAMILIES http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~towcesterfamilies/
REGISTER OF THE PECULIAR BAPTIST CHURCH IN TOWCESTER
1781 - 1836
Notes
The first entries in the book appear to be from 1755, but the book was not purchased until 1781. These initial entries are not stamped as the later ones are, and as they contain the births of William Amphlett's children in other areas of the country, I think must be suspected of being entered much later, and are probably incomplete.
The Commissioners statement included with the register on the microfilm, as filled in by John Barker the pastor, states that the church was started in 1715. John Barker was not aware of any previous register to the one submitted to the Commissioners.
The original register is lodged in the Public Record Office, ref RG 4/910

The Church Book throws some interesting light on Towcester:
1811 We have cause for thankfulness that our prayer meetings are tolerably well attended. It is almost entirely the poor who attend these meetings. At Pury there were many who attended on Sabbath evenings
1813 Membership 57. Enlarged the gallery to 19 feet in length: still chapel full.
1819 Circumstances of a painful nature to record. S. Harris married a Methodist and has left us. Aaron Gibbs acts unworthy of his profession. Our old friend Scott has become embarrassed in his circumstances, and now left off coming to hear the Gospel with his wife and daughter, nearly twelve months.
The trade is so bad some of the poor cannot pay for their seats. [Lace making was suffering because of the end of the war, and French lace once more available]
But the chapel is full.
1827 No employment in Towcester. Our friend Snedker with his family is removed to Northampton. Two other families also, through want of employment.
1831 8 baptised - 2 received much opposition from parents. They were threatened with not being allowed to attend. Threats that they should no more return home have evaporated into air. Membership 95.
1835
Jan 27 Lydia Scott died suddenly
Aug 28 Rachel Miles died in child-bed. Membership 115. 7 baptisms
1838 John Barker records that when he came there were 30 members, all but two had since died. He had baptised 148, 12 had transferred in. Of these 34 had been removed by death, 8 dismissed and 8 withdrawn or excluded. In all, including the two old members, membership was 112.
